Psychological Medicine and Older Adults

Nationally, we provide assessment and treatment services for people with complex affective disorder and trauma, as well as a residential service for people with complex obsessive-compulsive disorders.

We also provide services for people from around the country who need specialist care for eating disorders, perinatal and maternal mental health, chronic fatigue syndrome, neuropsychiatry and psychosexual conditions.

We undertake world-class research across a number of specialisms and provide specialist services for HIV mental health and memory disorders. We also run the OPTIMA mood disorders service, an intensive day programme for adults with bipolar disorder.

Older adults

We provide services for older people with severe and complex mental health needs as well as services for adults of all ages who have dementia. We offer a wide range of community and hospital-based mental health services in south London including community mental health teams, care home intervention teams, memory assessment and treatment services, psychology and psychotherapy services and home treatment teams in all four boroughs.

We provide acute inpatient services at the Maudsley Hospital, Bethlem Royal Hospital, and University Hospital Lewisham, and longer stay specialist care units in Rotherhithe and Streatham. Our national and specialist services include access to specialist dementia nurses, and a visual perception disorder service.
