Inclusion Criteria

Eating Disorders
primary DSM-5 anorexia nervosa diagnosis
BMI below 18.5 kg/m2
1st episode of illness
illness duration < 3 years

Healthy Control
PHQ9 of <5 'none-minimal'
AUDIT to <5
No current/past mental health issues
Must not have 1st or 2nd order family members with mental health issues
No learning difficulties
No regular medication for serious physical health issues
No regular recreational drug use

Eating Disorders - Recovered:
Eligibility will be assessed using the SCID-5 Screening Module over the phone with a study researcher who has been trained in this assessment.

Recovered anorexia nervosa:
To be eligible, you will have to have previously met the criteria for a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, (ii) have maintained a body mass index (BMI)> 18.5 kg/m2 for at least 6 months prior to the study, (iii) menstruate, and (iv) have not binged, purged, or engaged in significant restrictive eating patterns in the past 3 months.

Recovered bulimia nervosa:
To be eligible, you will have to have previously met the criteria for diagnosis of bulimia nervosa, (ii)have not binged or purged more than two times per month in the past six months.

Exclusion Criteria

Participants with brain injuries including stroke, tumours, epilepsy, neurodegenerative or other neurological disorders.

Participants who have developed problems including being deaf or have significant hearing problems or a hearing aid that cannot be removed, blind or vision difficulties (correct near vision of 20/100 or worse in both eyes), having type I or type II diabetes, or are heavily medicated for serious illness other than for the mental health issues under investigation.

Participants who are pregnant or any possibility that they may be pregnant. Restricted mobility, including inability to lie flat for 1.5 hours.
