The Paediatric Liaison Service provides a mental health liaison service for children and adolescents up to the age of 18 at King's College Hospital.

The service sees children and young people who self harm or have a mental health emergency which may or may not be related to a physical illness. The team also provides mental health assessment and treatment in the context of chronic and acute medical conditions and symptoms.

The service provides rapid assessment of psychiatric emergencies, with onward referral to local services. It provides ongoing treatment and intervention for children and young people with mental health conditions in the context of physical health problems and symptoms e.g. procedural pain, adjustment disorders, delirium and anxiety disorders, as well as medically unexplained symptoms, and fabrication or fabricated and induced illness. Team members are likely to come from the following disciplines: child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology and nursing.
