The Croydon Personality Disorder Service has two different therapies available:

1 - A specialist Tier 3 day hospital service, based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, for the treatment of people with moderate to severe emotionally unstable personality disorder (also known as borderline personality disorder), using the evidence-based treatment known as mentalization based therapy (MBT). This is offered on an out-patient basis; treatment lasts for 18 months and people attend either a 2 or 3 day programme depending on their level of need and the complexity of their difficulties and associated problems. We aim to prevent the need for repeated psychiatric hospital admission by providing a very intensive programme. Referral to the MBT programme is via inpatient services, secondary mental health community care teams or the assessment and liaison team.

2 - The Sun Project – an open access crisis-support and coping-skills-development group which runs five times per week from a central location in Croydon. One of these groups has a free crèche available and is specifically for parents of pre-school children. This is a self-referral service only – people interested in accessing this service can telephone 020 3228 8541.
