Tutiette Thomas

Service user governor

"Though I’ve lived with Lupus, effecting my physical and mental health since 2003, it’s only since 2016 when I became a carer/advocate for my mother Ingrid who lived with Parkinson’s, that I’ve been an active health and wellbeing campaigner.

"I’ve attended as many governor meetings as possible, and experienced how the position can influence the Trust’s decisions on how it delivers services. My passion and commitment remains to represent the service user constituent; children and young people to older adults, to improve Trust services, with especial focus on those of the African diaspora from the African continent and the Caribbean.

"I will continue to advocate for: implementation of trauma informed approaches; delivery of evidence based cultural competence in the continuing professional development programme; full integration of mental health, physical health and social care services and implementation of NHS personal health budgets through the Trust; Service user/carer led research including; genomics, African traditional medicine and organically occurring psychotropic compounds.

"During my first brief term, I sat as a service user/carer advisory group member for the recently published Mental Health Act review, and have accepted a Mental Health Collective Fellowship.

"I’ve really enjoyed collaborating with governors, the board and staff, and would very much like to strengthen our partnership. Sadly, my Mother Ingrid passed away in September 2018. She was an educationalist and a child and family therapist, so my role is to ensure her legacy - wellbeing for all."
