Abraham Blay

Staff governor

"I am a chartered safety and health practitioner and currently employed by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust as a Health and Safety Advisor for the Croydon and BDP Directorate.

"In terms of my educational background, I have a masters degree in engineering and management from Sheffield Hallam University and an LL.B (honours) degree. I am a chartered member (CMIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health.

"I am passionate about patient safety and how we keep staff safe whilst at work whilst providing the best possible health care for our service users and patients. I believe in engaging our service users, carers and the general public in developing South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. My keen interest in safety is not limited to patient care but how we strategically develop and improve our infrastructure, work environment as well as lowering our carbon foot print.

"I have over the past 10 years worked in different health care settings. I have adopted effective communication strategies to positively influence senior management in the approach they adopt to deliver safe, timely and excellent care. My ability to explore best practice and a flare for innovation, has over the years proven to be an asset to the teams I have worked with. My legal background has also helped me in influencing policy and the strategic direction of the teams I have worked with."
