Tony Coggins

Head of Mental Health Promotion

Tony Coggins is Head of Mental Health Promotion at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated from Surrey University with a BSc in Sociology before starting a career that has spanned 25 years working across the voluntary and statutory sectors.  

Tony's entrepreneurial approach has seen him take on a number of service and business development roles including co-founding and setting up STATUS Employment, a charity that has just celebrated its 21st anniversary.  

Tony's took his interest in the power of employment to promote health and well-being into the NHS where he managed the vocational services in one of the largest mental health service in the UK.  

More recently he has spent the past 6 years setting up SLaM's mental health promotion service with a remit of enabling the Trust to deliver on its strategic aim of working in partnership to promote mental well-being for all. Key to this has been developing well-being services and interventions that apply the evidence around promoting positive mental health in both workplaces and communities.  As part of this work Tony has played a key role in developing the Mental Well-being Impact Assessment toolkit and is its one of the original authors.

Tony is the Maudsley International Programme Lead for Population Mental Health and is working with colleagues to maximise opportunities to share best practice in building capacity for mental health and well-being internationally.
