There are plans to create eight modern new, adult inpatient wards: four Acute, one PICU, two specialist wards (adult eating disorders and neuropsychiatry) as well as the Tony Hillis Unit (high dependency rehabilitation unit for men). These have been designed by patients, carers, clinicians and specialist architects working together to create a modern fit for purpose wards, and a much-improved environment for patients and staff.
Please complete a new building naming survey by Friday 29 October 2021 South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust want to know what you think the new building and its wards should be called, and which names will have the most meaning to our staff and the communities we serve.
The new building will replace a building that once stood on the site - Douglas Bennett House- named after Dr. Douglas Bennett (1918-1997), a consultant psychiatrist at Maudsley Hospital, from 1962 until he retired, who pioneered long term care and rehabilitation services.
When the new building opens in spring 2023, it will be a new home for adult inpatient wards currently at Lambeth Hospital and will offer a modern, much-improved environment for staff to work and service users to recover.
