Lewisham Psychological Therapies Services - Primary Care

Services Provided:
The service provides on-site psychology and counselling services in 22 GP practices within Lewisham. The work includes assessment of and brief psychological interventions for clients referred by GPs and other staff within the Primary Health Care Teams (PHCTs). We also provide supervision, consultation and training for PHCT staff in relation to psychological aspects of their work, and collaborative work across the mental/physical health boundary. We aim to liase closely with local Community Mental Health Teams and facilitate joint working at the interface between primary and secondary care mental health. The service also includes the Deptford Primary Care Mental Health Team in North Lewisham (see separate entry)

North Lewisham is also served by a multi disciplinary psychological therapies team which takes referrals from local GPs. This service differs from on site services in that it operates from a central location: Deptford Primary Care Mental Health Team, The Lind Clinic, James Lind House, Grove Street Deptford, SE8.

All patients of the GP practices are eligible to be referred. Suitable referrals are usually people who are suffering from distressing and disabling mental health difficulties but do not have a severe and enduring mental illness. Detailed referral guidelines are available
