    New research from the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London provides the strongest evidence to date that psychopathy is linked to specific structural abnormalities in the brain.

    New research from the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health at the South London and Maudlsey NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London shows that illicit drug use in people aged 50-64 has increased ten-fold in England since 1993.

  3. BRC Research Methods Training Courses

    The BRC regularly runs research methods courses to help healthcare professionals design and conduct high quality research studies. The courses cover quantitative and qualitative research methods and general issues in conducting research and are free for staff at SLaM and King’s.

    The Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health (BRC) Bioinformatics group has organised a Bioinformatics Seminar Series (BSS) taking once a month starting from February 2012. This seminar intends to cover all areas of Bioinformatics. The first talk will be given by Dr. Zina M. Ibrahim from BRC Bioinformatics group and will discuss 'Detecting Epistatic Interactions in GWAS Studies'.

    CBT effective in treating symptoms of the menopause

    Research from the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry at King’s College London has found that brief psychological therapy may be an effective alternative to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in treating hot flushes and night sweats – the main symptoms of the menopause. The study, led by Professor Myra Hunter at King’s College London is the first randomised controlled trial of group and self-help cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) for menopausal hot flushes and night sweats.

    A project from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre for Mental Health (BRC-MH) was Highly Commended on the Health Service Journal awards. The commendation was in the Improving Care with Technology category and was for a brain scan that can detect the early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.
