UK’s top doctors at the Maudsley

Three Maudsley Hospital based consultants feature in a list of the
UK's leading specialists published in The Times newspaper -
representing half of the six listed in the 'Mental Health'
category.
Professor Janet Treasure (pictured) Heads up the Eating Disorders Unit at the Maudsley Hospital and is recognised as having over 30 years experience dealing with eating disorders and for publishing over 150 peer-reviewed papers and several influential guides on the subject, including self-help books.
And Colin Drummond, Professor of Addiction Psychiatry at the National Addiction Centre, based at the Maudsley Hospital, is an expert in the treatment of alcoholism and has been a member of the World Health Organisation's Expert Committee on Drug Dependence and Alcohol Problems. He leads a programme of research on alcohol and advises the government on these issues.
Also listed is Michael Rutter - often known as the 'father of child psychology' and who has a child and adolescents' centre named after him at the Maudsley Hospital. Michael was knighted in 1992 and won this year's Royal College of Psychiatrist's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Janet said: "While the recognition is flattering its important to know that there are many other hugely talented consultants at the hospital and Institute of Psychiatry, which is also based on the Maudsley site. Hopefully, we also have a few top specialists of the future among the hundreds of students currently studying at the Institute."
The Times asked charities, specialists and professional bodies and associations to come up with a list of leaders in their particular field.
In a separate survey in this week's Health Service Journal, SLaM's Stuart Bell was listed in the top ten NHS chief executives.
