Portraits: Patients and Psychiatrists
Portraits: Patients and Psychiatrists will be on display at Shakespeare's Globe until 1 October.
This collection of 16 life-size etched portraits is the culmination of a Wellcome Trust Arts Award winning collaboration between artist Gemma Anderson and Forensic Psychiatrist Dr Tim McInerny. It depicts psychiatrists and their patients at Bethlem Royal Hospital, but with no label to tell you which is which. Gemma's exhibition first premiered at the Bethlem Gallery in May this year.
Each portrait is drawn directly from life the narrative imagery is inspired by dialogue with each individual. The portraits concentrate on relating psychiatric ideas and theories to the individuals' personal histories and identities.
Also on display is a selection of work by 10 different artists from the Bethlem Gallery, which provides a showcase for the inspirational talents of people who use SLaM's services..
