Dementia workshop

A mental health workshop on dementai takes place at the Robens Suite in the Tower Wing at Guy's Hospital between 1.30pm and 4pm, 4th February 2011.

The focus of the afternoon will be to look at the challenges faced in providing person-centred care to people suffering from dementia. Speakers from a variety of different settings will give their perspective on how these challenges impact on their work, with special consideration given to how inappropriate prescribing of anti-psychotic drugs to people with dementia can be reduced within care homes.

Professor Robert Howard, leading the event, says, "It is a sad fact that far too many people with dementia are being prescribed anti psychotic drugs inappropriately. A new approach is needed, in which NHS care professionals interact with each other and also with social care professionals to find alternative ways of treating the symptoms that would lead to a drug being prescribed inappropriately."

If you would like to attend, please email alison.berridge@kcl.ac.uk or aaron.m.hamilton@kcl.ac.uk to confirm by Friday 4 February 2011.
