Cutting edge memory service for Lambeth and Southwark
With numbers set to double in the next 30 years, dementia costs health and social services more than heart disease, stroke and cancer put together.
Early diagnosis and intervention improves quality of life and
prolongs independence. It is also a cost effective, efficient way
to manage treatment.
Southwark and Lambeth Memory Service (SLMS) provides a single
point of access to specialist services for all new referrals of
adults with emerging memory difficulties. People formally diagnosed
with more advanced dementia, or who are in crisis, should continue
to be referred to their borough community mental health teams.
Croydon Memory Service has similar criteria.
The service provides comprehensive assessment for people
with 'mild to moderate' memory problems and offers appropriate
treatment and support options including medication, individual and
group therapies, signposting and follow-up services. The service
also provides access to specialist services including Memory
Clinics at King's College and Guy's hospitals, and the
Neuropsychiatry and Memory Disorders Clinic at St Thomas'
Hospital.
