Help in a crisis

Where to go and who to call

If you are concerned about an immediate risk of harm - either to yourself or someone else - then phone 999. Here are some of the other ways you can get help if you are experiencing a mental health crisis.

Go to your nearest A&E

Go to your nearest hospital with an Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department. In some hospitals, this will be called the Emergency Department. There are qualified staff on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, who will be able to assess you and give you the appropriate help.

Contact mental health services

If you are already receiving support from mental health services you should have a care plan. This will include details of who you should contact in a crisis

If you can't find your care plan, contact your our Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) during the day, 9am - 5pm from Monday to Friday. Ask for your care co-ordinator or the person on duty. Outside of these times, you can contact your local Home Treatment Team.

Information line

We also have an information line that is available 24 hours a day to point you in the right direction about where to get help. The number is 0800 731 2864.

More generally, our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is a good source of help and information. You can find out more about PALS in this short film.
